You and Julian met at the start of the season when you came to work for the club, making content for social media.

At first he behaved a bit shy, but as the months went by, little by little he became more encouraged.

Let's just say that the Julian at the beginning of the season wouldn't have dared to ask you out, as he did at the end of the season.

I ask you out, at the end of a day of recording, I wait for most of the guys to walk away so I can do it.

They both agreed to tour the city and then go to dinner.

That dinner was the start of it all, a couple of months later, they officially started dating, choosing to keep the relationship as low-key as possible, only the team and our families knew.

With the theme of the final, you had forgotten for a moment that you would meet your in-laws.

On the day of the game, together with the rest of the media team, we were in charge of keeping the fans informed at all times.

Fortunately, we documented a match that ended in victory.

On the way to capturing the celebration, I felt a pair of arms wrap around me from behind.

Y/N- congratulations champion!. You immediately turned around so you could hug him properly.

At first it was just an emotional hug, but I think the euphoria of the moment made us forget where we are for a while and ended up kissing.

And with that… Goodbye to discretion.

J- sorry… I…

Y/N- okay, at some point everyone was going to find out.

You reassure him immediately.

Back in our world, we didn't see that family members had entered the camp.

xx- Julian, son… Two people behind us caught our attention.

I took a few steps aside for my boy to greet his parents, hugged and kissed each one affectionately, when I finished I approached them again.

J- Mom, Dad, she's my girlfriend Y/N. I repeated his actions.

JM- You definitely weren't wrong, she's beautiful.

J- MAMA!! (MOM!!!) He blushed furiously.

JF- Your mom doesn't lie, they both look cute together.

Now it was my face that was flushed.

Y/N- Es un placer conocerlos (it's a pleasure to meet you).

I got a little bit of the Spanish that Julián had taught me.

JM- Believe me, the pleasure is ours.

We exchanged a few more words, but even though I would have liked to stay, I had to get on with the work.

Before continuing, I took some pictures of them and even another of my mates came to photograph me with my boyfriend and my in-laws.

I think all the scenarios in my head were pure nonsense, thinking that they wouldn't want me.

I'm quite optimistic about Thomas in DA3 too. You could tell from the movie 2 book that Julian Fellowes was pretty into the whole Hollywood aspect of Thomas's ending. He likes to write about rich people and Guy has an upper class lifestyle that JF would want to expand a bit more on. It won't be a big part of the movie (by virtue of how many chances there are) but whatever we get will likely be positive.

Yes, Fellowes has been interested in the emerging film industry since s2 and Ethel's fascination with people like Mabel Normand. I think for him, the emergence of film is one of modernity’s answers to the strict social hierarchy of the 19th century. While riddled with prejudices and a hierarchy of its own, it was also a place where a lot of wealth and influence could be generated by people who came from very little.

It's also a variation on Old Money vs. New Money, which is a theme that clearly interests him. The servants in a remote Yorkshire village know Guy and Myrna's life stories and keep their pictures around. Mary needs the cash from their industry to keep Downton Abbey, the centerpiece of this great English estate, from having a leaky roof. And yet, that does not confer any real respect when they show up to the house, because their wealth is seen as ill-gotten - creating cheap, probably immoral, entertainment for the lower classes - and ill-used. They are a part of this new class of people with tremendous wealth and social influence, distributed to the masses in a way that a lot of people considered subversive and dangerous (and still do!)

I am interested to see whether any of that comes up again. If the current suspicions are true, and it is the Crawleys (or some of them) going to America, that whole dynamic will be flipped on its head, which could be interesting, I think!

Why is the whole internet saying JF can't write gay characters? Or are people just expecting him to be someone who does? Is this just because Thomas Barrow isn't generally considered to be good representation of a gay man? What's the issue with Oscar then? No hate to anyone here, I just don't quite understand what's going on. I've found Oscar a pretty good character who has life outside of being gay too.

Because Oscar is the only gay main character on the show, everyone who wants him to be Representation has conflicting wants (ditto with Thomas), so those people are judging Julian Fellowes's actual level of skill in writing gay characters specifically on a variety of not-agreed-upon criteria

Personally I think Julian Fellowes writes gay characters fine, Thomas included. They are believable resonant people to me.

Given how many people I see saying this who LIKE Thomas and/or Oscar, and so presumably do find resonance there, I think the criticism would be better described as of the story JF chooses to tell with his gay characters, which may or may not be enjoyable/realistic/historically accurate/What Is Needed On Television Right Now/whatever, to some people's taste.

I personally think there is more room for discussion of skill there. But at the same time, many times I think people are judging his gay characters and their stories differently than they judge his other characters, whose stories can also be melodramatic and tragic and cliche and trite or torturous or whatever, or even if they do judge those other stories, they do not necessarily draw a connection between the gay character's story and those stories or see them as on the same plane.

I highly recommend anyone who is interested in JF's writing & authorial intent to read the Downton Abbey S1-S3 scriptbooks!

Aaaaand the Downton movie has been announced on the Highclere Instagram*, which makes it official enough for me to go 'yeah, it's happening'. Therefore my vote on that one poll goes from 'this again?' to 'are they holding Julian Fellowes captive and making him write these things?'

Don't get me wrong. I will see it. I will form an educated opinion. I will give it the opportunity to be good, even though the last movie was clearly meant to be just that - the last movie. JF even said he could comfortably leave it there. I have enough faith in the production team to think they can turn out something enjoyable.

I'm just not really excited and also fully willing to say "Nope, my canon stops at movie two, thank you" if it's not my thing.
